My First Peony

My first peony

Last fall I asked mom for some peonies. She separated her peonies and sent me four varieties. I planted them and all four varieties are growing and have buds. The first one bloomed today. This is my first time growing peonies. It looks pretty nice with the crimson Japanese lace leaf maple behind it.

First Iris of the Season

This is the first of my irises to bloom this season. Last fall, I dug them all up and separated them, and gave most away. I made sure to keep some of the “grapies” and some of the “mauves”. I only got two stalks so far and both are grapies, but the mauves usually are a couple weeks behind, so we will see if I get any mauves.

Little girl with a big gun

When Rise of Skywalker came out, I wanted something with Star Wars image. I was searching around and found this. Huh! A little girl with a big gun. Well I shoot a crossbow, and I’m not a bad shot. So I made this hapi. It is a more modern Japanese garment, but it would be perfectly reasonable to wear it to archery practice.

Ethel memorial bathrobe

At the end of July 2019, I was at the Pennsic war for 2 weeks on vacation. I had a cat sitter coming in twice a day to feed cats and especially give attention to Ethel, who was old and isolated in her own room. I got a call that she was very sick. After 5 painful days, I had to have her put to sleep. Although, I didn’t miss her peeing on everything, I did miss her very demanding affection. I missed it terribly. I still miss it today. So I wanted to do something. Last fall, I found some really great kitty fabric and made myself the Ethel memorial bathrobe.

The style is kind of like a Japanese yukata. I cheated and have belt loops for the tie at the waist.

How the garden grows

Spring shows all the work I did last year. In the front yard, top left, you see the dark red transplanted maple, the transplanted hydrangea just in front of the maple on the left, and the peonies that mom sent last fall. All the other picture are the back yard. In the back yard, the landscaping was done last April. I added plants throughout the summer. I planted the daffodils last fall. Come summer we will see all the daylilies I planted on the hill below the daffodils.
