These are two braids that I made recently and have written about.
First attempt at kikko braid pattern. It has 32 strands, is braided from silk yarn, and is only 2 feet long. The two color arrangement of strands forms a hexagonal, or kikko, pattern resembles the kikko pattern on a tortoise's shell. It symbolizes long life. Here is the whole write-up I made for the Kingdom Virtual A&S Display. It is background information on kumihimo and it's history. | ||
Kikko braid again. This one is more than five feet, is braided from bundles of silk thread, and uses three colors in a different arrangement. This is a write-up I made for the second braid. It talks more about the effort involved in this braid as well as some challenges. |
